VAUGHAN, ON - A 16-year-old boy died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night, May 21, in Vaughan, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old driver, according to
CP24.
The fatal incident took place at the intersection of Martin Grove Road and Jackman Crescent. York Regional Police (YRP) responded to the scene at about 10:45 p.m.
While an investigation remains underway and a sequence of events has not been released, initial reports indicated that a mini bike was involved.
Officers arrived to find the teen with life-threatening injuries. The victim was rushed to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators learned that at the time of the crash, the driver, a Vaughan resident, had been "bound by a release order" for separate offences. The suspect, who was taken into custody following the crash, now faces charges of "dangerous operation causing death, failure to stop after an accident causing death and possession of a controlled substance."
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have footage, is urged to contact investigators.
