How Is the Long-Term Disability Rate Calculated?

According to the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, depending on the insurer from which you are receiving your long-term disability payments, the amount you are paid may be calculated at somewhere between 60 and 70 percent of your regular average income. For example, if you make $10,000 a month, you may receive approximately $6,000 to $7,000 per month through long-term disability. The amount you are paid may fluctuate between companies depending on premiums.

If you qualify for Canada Pension Plan – Disability Benefits (CPP-D), the amount you receive from your insurer will be reduced by the amount you receive from the Canada Pension Plan.
